Display Driver not working for Toshiba Satellite p205

Hello,
I'm having a problem with a driver. I have a Satellite P205 Toshiba laptop. It's running windows 7 home premium 32 nit. The driver is for: Mobile Intel 945 express chipset family(Microsoft Corp WDDM 1.0) The driver is up to date and i think it might be corrupted or something. What keeps happening is whenever i open a game i have the display goes black and then comes back up and has an alert that says: "Display Driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Driver for Windows Vista stopped responding and has resolved". After this alert comes up (about a second later) either the screen freezes up or the screen looses the display entirely. I don't know why his is happening, i have the driver up to date i have also unistalled and re-installed the driver and it still doesn't work. Also the alert message i got says the driver is running in Vista while i am running Windows 7. Does anyone have any solutions they can give me?

Bump! The problem still persists. When i open the game program and everything loads up the display flickers and comes back on with that error message before freezing completely or going to black. The driver for my display accelerator is up to date and has been re-installed 2 times. I think its weird that the error message refers to Vista when i have windows 7. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Redmann,

WIN | type DEVMGMT.MSC | ENTER
Right-click on you graphics adapter
choose properties
First choose disable
Now choose uninstall.
shut down your laptop.
Power up laptop.
Screen will probably be 600 x 800
Wait a minute or two. You will probably get a message about restarting.
In any case, do a restart.

Is screen back to normal?

If not, go to Windows Update and see if it finds an "update" for your graphics adapter.

You can also try going back into devmgmt, clicking on the display adapter and choose the have Windows look for a driver. I've never had any luck with this approach.

Of course, another way out is to go to the Toshiba website and fetch the Win 7 driver for your laptop.

You could try downloading a fresh new driver from the Intel website

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18223&ProdId=2301&lang=eng

Installing this may/will overwrite your existing drivers and should fix the issue.

Thanks Orbital Shark as I goofed bad. I saw the part about display problems and glossed over the Intel chipset cause.

You're selection is still valid as it would force Windows to re-install the GFX driver through different means

i tried the link to intel and downloaded the driver and installed it and restarted my laptop. I tried playing the game and again it did not work and gave me the same error. To clarify to give you guys all angles: the game in question is World of Warcraft which is a high end game and im running it at lowest graphics. It only happens on some characters in some areas of the games but not in others. Redman,

Go into device managment. Are there any yellow triangles or red Xs on any of the entries there?

Also so that we have more info to work on, would you please complete your system specs? Here is how:

HOW TO FILL OUT YOUR SYSTEM SPECS

In the line at the top of www.SevenForums.com you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

I updated my specs to the best of my knowledge using Speccy, and the only device that had a yellow triangle was Mass Storage Controller

When you get a chance go to the Toshiba support site and naviagate thru everyting to tell the model complete with that suffix. You might need to turn your laptop upside down to get the complete info they want. Of course, select Win 7 32 bit and work from most recent back to get the latest and greatest drivers from Toshiba. I advise agaoint their "package" update but rather picking what you need.

I was able to find the ending to my model number, i'm going through and installing all up to date drivers, i'll let you know if anything changes

I downloaded and updated every driver that was offered for my laptop, the problem still persists. There was one driver that would not work: driver intel matrix, evertime i try to update it it says my system doesnt meet the requirements even though i think it does, i tried disabling it from device manager but the problem still worked and i tried updating it from the device manager and it wouldnt find one.

I was able to go into my system center and see that it recoreded one of the times the laptops screen froze. This time it eventually went into a version of the blue screen of death i think becuase it was blue but the writing was all blurry and small, i went into event details and copied the report:

Those chaps there are going to need the info you provide by using the procedure given in this tutorial.

I got a response from the BSOD post and they told me to update certain drivers which i did but they also told me to update my GMA and that it cause the crash except that my GMA is up to date and ive unistalled and reinstalled it many times. http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/120521-bsod-display-problems.html#post1039153 thats a link to the report the BSOD guy gave me and i followed a tutorial on checking for causes of the BSOD error i got but everything checked out fine. I tried everything he gave me but the problem still persists. Any other ideas?

Am monitoring the other thread you started and waiting to see what they come up with.

What bothers me is that from apppearances, your system is crashing at startup. If you continue to get crashes at startup even when booting into safe mode, then that is rather indicative of hardware problems.
