    Gfx card drivers...a must?

I just did a fresh install of W7 64bit and noticed that by default it looked after and assigned drivers for my gfx card: HIS ATI pcie HD5670

So...as yet I have not installed the actual proper drivers for my card...

I just wonder if I should...

What are the advantages of installing the proper drivers?

    thanks

Official drivers are better in terms of performance
You should install them if you plan to use games and 3D apps

    That's what I thought.

Does anyone know if that Catalyst centre thing needs to be installed?

I don't mind installing drivers...but I usually just want the drivers....nothing else of the fancy utility add on things.

lol...I installed drivers for my HP printer today and there was no option to custom install....it ended up installing everything bar the kitchen sink. Incredible.

Needless to say I nuked it hard

EDIT: I just got the latest drivers for my card at the official site....how do I go about installing them? Should I uninstall/ disable the current drivers? Or do I just run the downloaded installer and go from there?

    thanks again

You can unzip or extra the drivers you downloaded to a file, (usually just DL to my desktop) Then go to device manager>diaplay adpter> Upgrade software>browse my computer for driver software>let me pick>have disk> browse to the folder you put the dirver in and install.

I would first just try running the setup.exe file first should install with no problem that way too.

Many users prefer to install just the driver... some systems have troubles with the Catalyst Centre and BSOD crashes...

Catalyst is only good if you plan to Force game graphics setting instead of using the built in choices in the games.... Other than that waste of memory and a process cycle.

Ok thanks...I'll just be opting for the drivers only. I hope that option is available
