    USB-Serial drivers help

Ok here is what i have. AMD 64 win 7 home, presario cq62 laptop. I keep getting the code 28 for the usb to serial everytime that I try an connect an Audison bit one digital audio processor to the laptop. It is a car audio related product that requires a laptop to set it up. the connection is made through usb. I have been doing research and have come up with nothing so far. The product when installed on an XP based system has no issues at all with connection. I have been told by the manufacturer of the processor that they have had no issues so far with Win 7 and the processor. So I am starting to think that the issue is with the Presario or with the win 7 home premium. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Id hate to have to go and buy another laptop just to get this to work. Thank you in adavance!!!

Let me also add also that when i get the error code it comes up under 'other devices" in the device manager, not under USB.

Did you install the driver in compatibility mode?

right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>choose OS (XP)

Im not sure what driver to install. Should I reinstall the software for the device and choose the compatibility mode? Run it under xp mode? Of all the usb devices that I have connected to this laptop, this is the only one that has had an issue. Thank you sir for your reply.

Ok I have tried running the program in compatibility mode with the device and I still get the same results. The main problem I am having is that as soon as I power up the device and plug in the USB cable to my laptop, i get the error in device manager. It doesnt try to look for drivers for the new hardware like it does most of the other times when I plug in a new device via USB. I will include an attachment for the drivers installation that comes with the disc. Not sure if this helps in the matter because I cant even get to the part that will allow me to install the drivers. Maybe I am missing something obvious. Not sure what to do at this point. Thanks for looking!

Bump for some help on this one. Ran software and hardware on xp based laptop and it works perfect. I noticed on the xp when the hardware is connected the hardware wizard states USB to serial converter has been loaded. Is there a generic USB to serial converter that XP has built in that Win 7 home does not??? Please and thank you for any help.
