You need a SATA laptop drive. Make sure when purchasing it is a 2.5" SATA laptop Hard Drive.

No, one is a SATA (DELL) and the other IDE.

Ok so I have another drama...My hard drive has now completely died and it seems impossible to tell what interface my hard drive has in order for me to buy a new one.
My hard drives interface looks like this: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...w=1270&bih=710
Now I've been getting all confused as to whether this is a SATA, Serial ATA, ATA-100 or ATA-6
Because not just any old SATA interface will fit.
I cannot have one with pins, help!
I'm pretty sure mine's interface is "Serial ATA", but when i search to buy one, they look different.

    Thanks everyone!

Serial ATA is SATA - which is what you have.

i realise that its the same, but when googling to see what the interfaces look like, they are different.
for instance i found my exact hard drive with a sata interface that showed it had pins in the image, not how my one looks.
sorry it's just really confusing me, i dont want to buy one called sata and find it doesnt fit.

SATA like IDE is standard. Your 7 pin connector may have an enclsure to appear different but it will still be 7 pin. When you said your old hdd in your other laptop had pins I thought you meant 40 pin PATA. If it has 7 pins then try it.
