ATI Mobility Radeon x1300 Driver Download/Install Error

So I had just upgraded my laptop (Dell Inspiron E1505) to Windows 7 and was using the Windows Update to get all the drivers for my hardware. All of them worked except the ATI Mobility Radeon x1300, and when i try to download/install it, it just comes up with unknown error code 80200053. Now my computer is stuck with low resolution and using a generic PnP standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver and I can't find a way to get my video card to work :/

Can anyone suggest a way to install the driver?
I tried downloading the driver online, but those versions are not compatible with Windows 7?

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Se7enforums! kev

Your main problem will be trying to find 7 drivers for the X1xxx series anything since that series is no longer supported for 7. You will need the Vista equivalent however that should go right on and work without problems since that will support vpu chips prior to the 2xxx, 3xxx, and 4xxx still seeing active support. Welcome to SF! dcmo

For the older Radeon cards a little digging around saw the release notes indicate support for the older cards back as far as the 9500 models with the Catalyst 9.3.1 32bit version available at ATI Catalystâ„¢ Legacy Display Driver

For the 64bit Vista/7, ATI Catalystâ„¢ Legacy Display Driver

Hopefully that will out for you there since that was latest still offering support for any series prior to the 2000, 3000, 4000 model lines.

Hello killerkris14 Welcome to the Se7en Forums!

The problem you are probably running into there for the older X1xxx series card is that the latest Catalysts and drivers are written for the 2xxx, 3xxx, and 4xxx series of models no longer supporting the older model lines. You will likely have to go to a place like guru3d.com in order to look up older versions they archive and still have available or revert back to the cd that came iwth the card.

That usually doesn't work out and not what you want there!

I believe the latest releases were in the Cat 8.x lineup there before the X1s were dropped. The release notes if seen generally show the model lines that are supported. Those are what to pay close attention in order to see how new you can go for the card there.
