    Acer Aspire M1100

My Brother has one of these and seems to have quite a few issues with it, it's currently running Vista (ugh) It's very slow does anyone know if there would be any problems converting it it to 7 (I have access to Enterprise and professional versions)? any help appreciated.

while i dont think there would be any problem's per say, I would suggest you first check if all the latest driver's of this machine are compatible with Win7. An incompatible driver can be a huge problem and may even trigger a BSOD.

I would suggest you first list the current specs on your model as this article was a little unclear on some aspects of the specs(Link).

Run the upgrade advisor. It will point to possible problems with the system to upgrade if there are any.

I would think from your specs that all the hardware should be just fine.

Generally speaking, if a system is capable of running Vista then it is capable of running Win 7. The Vista drivers should work fine in Win 7 if there are no Win 7 specific drivers available.

Thanks for the replies, judging from them I think there's a high probability of a successful W7 installation. I won't even consider an upgrade it will be a HDD format and clean install. he's on talk talk broadband and having difficulty connecting so downloading anything is a pain, too much junk installed including Babylon which I got rid of once for him, but has somehow got reinstalled.

The nice part about the m1100 is that when I installed windows 7 Home Premium on it all of the drivers for it were automatically installed. I didn't have to install a single m1100 driver. Plain and simple it works right out of the box with windows 7 so to say.

    Hope this help you out.

That's very helpful indeed, I've had to shelve the project for now though too many other things going on. Thanks for sharing your experience, when the time comes to carry out the update I now know it will be trouble free.
