    Power Management Trouble

mircea00 - How are You? I have a dv5-1125nr HP. It came with Vista 64 Home Premium. When You brought Your dv5 home, since it is new was Power Management working before You changed to Windows 7 64? Can You see your machine Battery charging when You are plugged in, if not can You revert to Vista 64 and see if it is working. You could restore because You made Your restore disks, right? It might be worth your while because then You can call HP for the first year You own the machine and they will do whatever it takes to get You up and running. If You bought a warranty from the store You bought the machine at and You restore to Vista -- and it won't work correctly -- then You can push the 'button' to get them to help You. After we do that and it is working in Vista and then it won't work in Windows 7 then we can tackle that. If works in Vista but not in Windows 7 I would be really surprised. God's Speed to You. I will do whatever it takes to help You. Patrick C

Hello, welcome to the forums by the way.

I have a Dv5-1235dx, it would better help me though if I knew the exact model of your Dv5-Notebook, any chance you could provide this?

Also please try to fill out your System Specs to the best of your ability.

EDIT: OMG i hate it when it puts me on the last page of a thread I've never been on before, makes me think its the only/first page! :|

    Hi mircea00,

I have a different laptop, but the battery was exhibiting the same problem (all be it after nearly 3 years ). It would last just under an hour even on full charge, and has since failed completely

I'm thinking that some contact with HP customer support might be the next step for you.

Hi mircea00 :) - (1) You can go to HP's website. There is extensive troubleshooting there. I went there to see and there is a whole section just on power management. I have found that looking, trying, and logical troubleshooting based upon the information of say Vista 64 on the HP website can help you see how to solve issues with Windows 7 64 (or 32). (2) The next thing I would try is to go - to the HP driver site for your Laptop (based upon your model number) and ---sequentially download drivers from Vista 64 that can be downloaded and run in the compatibility mode into Windows 7 64. I recommend that You take these one at a time. (3) It occured to me this might be a BIOS issue, and there was a BIOS upgrade there that may not have been installed for You. I check to see the version before I leap. (4) I have left most of the driver installation to Windows 7 and I haven't had any major issues. (5) Some of the Manufacturer's of the Video etc. have Windows 7 drivers. (6) If after You have looked at all of this - HP has a Customer Service (C.S.) Number You can call. I would give it a shot to call them because Windows 7 is on the Horizon and I would hope You could talk them into helping You fix this issue.
I hope this helps. Please don't hesitate to keep trying this forum for more help. God's Speed to your efforts -- Patrick C
