Use the USA website, for drivers use the Vista ones.

Your laptop does not have windows 7 support on the acer site. I would definately not recommend installing a bios that is not in english. You might end up with a laptop that is completely unusable.

notice the windows 7 selection is x'd out on the acer site.

If you flash the bios incorrectly by using a bios that is not for the US machines. You probably will regret
    it.

    Use the U.S. bios.

The first thing that may not work with the EURO bios is your keyboard.

    going to Download
shows the x1700, not the ax1700
    for windows 7
Acer seems to have more than one model 1700 and the same model series. so it was confusing.

the two bios that are there are R01-b1 and r01-b3.
    which do you have?

Do you have any particular reason to believe that a new BIOS will fix whatever problems you may have?

    Or are you just hoping?

Some don't agree, but I never flash a BIOS unless there is a definite problem in my particular setup that a newer version will fix.

Flashing just because it's the latest can cause more trouble than it's worth.
