Canon driver not found with W7 ?

Hi sorry for probably another printer issue but this one is a little odd.

I have a canon pixma ip3000 and when i installed it on my W7 64, windows update found it and made it work...great

Problem is my dad is having the same problem with his newer canon pixma ip4500 except windows update isnt finding a driver for it.

The canon site only has this add on driver for some maintenance utillity but doesnt actually have the main driver ! so how can we get this newer model working ?

    Thanks for any advice

Download the Vista driver from Canon. You may have to install it in Compatability Mode.
If you are using Win 7 64bit get the Vista 64bit driver. Win 7 32bit get the Vista 32bit driver.

Here is the tutorial. Option One or Two.
    Compatibility Mode

There are no Windows 7 drivers.

Ok, i think its an operating system error, Allow me to explain the course of events.

1 plug printer in, windows can install a driver but it wont install correctly.

2 uninstall printer and restart, plug printer back in and allow windows update to find a driver ? nothing. (canon assure me windows will find one)

3 Install vista 64 driver as recomended here, he gets the attached error.

Now i have checked my dads W7 64 Ultimate with my Home Premium 64 and the printui.dll are exactly the same size and same version and in the same place and if he goes to control panel and manually selects add printer nothing happens, where as in my home premium i get the next screen to add a device so there is definately a problem with my dads OS.

So with out a full clean format is there a way to rectify this .dll problem.

I really hope someone has an idea.

    Thanks for reading.

Windows will never find a driver. There is not one made.

Unplug the printer and leave it unplugged until driver is installed. Install a Vista driver as I posted above in Compatability Mode.

The reinstalling of Windows won't fix the printer driver to change from a Vista driver to a Win 7 driver.
You will still have the same problem.

Download the Vista driver to the desktop or where you can find it then use this. Compatibility Mode

Thanks Mike, i did just what you describe above. Double click the driver and the above attached error comes up before i even connect the printer ? there is no compatibility mode option? Its there, just not accessable.

If i select change settings for users then it auto selects compatibilty mode for windows xp service pack 3. I then click apply and ok, and then ok an the first page and then double click the vista64.exe and it starts the install but then the error pick above comes up and thats the end of that?

    I'm stuck ?

The only suggestion I have left is to try Option Two of the tutorial. Let the trouble shooter find the Compatibility problem.

    Canon Pixma IP4500 drivers (x32 & x64bits):

    PIXMA iP4500

Select the OS (Windows 7) & Select the native language, then you'll have the x64bits drivers + add-on module for your printer!
