I know this is coming in late, but I just went through this bit of falderal re: the HP 5N on a Win7 machine. I absolutely could not get the machine to go out to WU to find the files needed for the 5N.

I was building up a W7 laptop for my wife and hers DID go out to WU for the drivers. It found the oem25.inf files that has the proper driver for the 5N (and a bunch of others), but they're 'digitally unsigned' and that's probably why M$ won't put them out there easily.

I located the file on the wife's machine and threw it out on my server, then went back to my machine, deleted the existing printers (installed with an HP LJ2030 PCL5 printer driver), and then tried the reinstall using the "Have Disk..." option. Worked flawlessly!! I now have the 5N with the proper drivers loaded.

If anyone needs this driver, contact me through the forums and I'll be glad to forward a copy of it to you.
KEYBOARDS...looking to PM you to see if you could help me with these drivers but dont know how... if you pick this up let me know...

I was not able to make this driver file work. However I did find a workaround to my problem.

These steps did resolve the issue:
    1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del)
    2. Click Sevices Tab and then Services Button (Bottom Right)
    3. Under Name find "Windows Update"
    4. Right click "Windows Update" and select Stop. do not close
    5. Open Window Exploper and browse to C:\Windows
    6. Delete the Folder "SoftwareDistribution"
    7. Go back to Servies, Right click "Windows Update" and select Start
After this, do your usual routine to install the printer, and select "Windows Update" to find driver (it shouldn't fail now), and afterwards, you should be able to find the correct (in this case LaserJet 5si) driver.

    I hope this helps.
Thanks a lot buddy,Now I have found drivers HP Printer 5N.But the printer still not connected through internet.I am trying to solve this problem.

    Windows 7 HP Laserjet 5N

It was tricky but I have 2 HP 5Ns up and running on a LAN with XP and W7 computers.

The trick is to NOT let Win7 select the printer because it will select the Laserjet 5 NOT the 5N and Windows 7 tries to lock it to the 5 drivers and not release it.

You need to delete the Laserjet 5 and reboot then manually add the 5N. This is tricky because Windows 7 keeps defaulting to the laserjet 5 and this is the wrong driver. To force it to forget, delete the Laserjet 5 printer then reopen the printer control panel. I needed to do this several time before it stopped reappearing. Then reboot and open the printer control panel and see if the Laserjet 5 is still there. I had to delete the printer and reboot several time before it was gone for good. Once it is gone chose Add a Printer and manually set it up.

Windows will find your Laserjet 5 and show it's IP address, write it down and create a static route on your router with it and also set the Laserjet's IP address to this address using the 5N menu.

WARNING: Do not let window select the driver.
Click on chose a printer not listed, then chose to enter the network printer option and enter the IP address you have written down.

WARNING: Do not let Windows 7 use the driver it recommends. Manually select a driver. You may need to update your list of Windows 7 printer drivers. Within the updated list is a driver for the 5N. Use this driver. You'll need to look under HP then scroll to the LaserJet 5N.

MAC OSX is not supporting the 5N as far as I can tell no drivers are available in the MAC OS or on the Apple and HP web-sites. If anyone has solved Networking the 5N with MACs please let me know.

    HP Laserjet 5N drivers

I would love to have the driver for the HP laserjet 5n
I had a similar problem in installing another old HP Printer on my Win7 computer. This is how I solved it.
First get the oem25.inf file from Mr keyboards as he mentioned in his post dated 14 May 2012. Copy it in to your computer eg. in My Documents.
Connect the printer to your computer. In control panel---> Printer it will appear as a unknown device. ( Window has installed some generic driver to recognise it as an unknown device). Rt click on the Unknown device and uninstall the driver.
Now In control panel ---? Printer --> add a printer --etc Select Have disk and point to the oem25.inf file that is in your My Documents. The exact driver will be installed. When you get warning about not digitally signed , select Install .
I initially selected parallel port and after the driver installation changed it to USB port as I have connected a "Parallel port to USB converter" cable to printer cable.
Try this method and let me know if there is any problem

    Driver for HP5N

Do a Google search & You will find lot of sites that offer the HP 5N driver. If it is available at HP's official site , use that only. Other download sites ,will scan your computer thereby there is a chance of them installing unwanted SW.
After downloading the driver , use the method suggested by me for installing the driver
