Intel gma 915GM video freezing OS

Hi there! I got a weird problem... There's no problem finding drivers for my nc6220, but when I try to play any video file, mpg, avi or asf, the Windows 7 freezes, no options... When I turn of direct3d acceleration, the video is CPU accelerated, all works normal. But direct3d works normal, when turned on, I can even play games... Only video files are causing problem. The problem is well documented here :

    Please, help me someone...

I don't have any problems with AVI, but I also have Xvid installed so maybe that might help you.

The problem is probably with the GMA driver, because I don't have any codecs installed. I also tried CCCP, k-lite codec packs, but windows freezes right after opening any video file...

    Intel 915GM Driver Issues

I also am experiencing the same problem. Reducing the hardware acceleration seems to be a workaround untill we can get some updated drivers.

Same issue here, only I somehow got it to work as designed once, but I had a system restore afterwards and I couldn't recreate it
After I installed the driver (from Intel website) and after the reboot there was a strange error saying that one video driver installation failed and the device will be deleted and the other installation suceeded. After that I had hardware acceleration, AVI playback and whatnot. But I had to do a system restore and I can't recreate that state now.

Does RC1 work fine with the GMA900 chipset now?

The driver database for RC is a lot bigger so the chance is slightly better. 1 way to find out is to try downloading 7100 from M$ and see how you get on. The support for 7100 is greatly increased too as it's an official build released to the public.

Also, a decent set of codecs for Windows would be Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs

    Hope this helps :)

I've already downloaded it but haven't installed it yet as I'd have to image my laptop first... if it still doesn't work, there isn't much point in me trying it out! The beta would freeze on me when left idle for a while, and video playback with acceleration would lock the system up too.

I was hoping someone else has tried it, as I remember a bunch of people talking about the same problem i was having before...

I just finished installing 7100 on my nc6220. The graphics showed up as VGA until I used Update. I believe it downloaded an updated video driver:
    Report Date: 05/05/2009
    Report Time[hr:mm:ss]: 17:50:19
    Driver Version: 6.14.10.4543
    Operating System: * , (6.1.7100)
    Default Language: English
    DirectX* Version: 9.0
    Physical Memory: 1527 MB
    Minimum Graphics Memory: 8 MB
    Maximum Graphics Memory: 128 MB
Graphics Memory in Use: 9 MB

I've viewed a few video file types, and all work OK, except for a few annoying hesitations during playback.

Of course, Aero doesn't work, and the WEI for video is 1.0.
