    New questions

After I followed the instructions I managed to get the fingerprint reader to work. Leaves me with two questions.

Is it possible to login in windows 7 with your fingerprint.

I made some login accounts in the fingerprint manager, when i choose one of the list i get an empty explorer screen. Not the screen who I want. When i go to a login screen manually in explorer the login with the fingerprint worls well. Looks like the right url cant be found when i took one of the list in the logon manager

i used the AuthenTec drivers for my hp. i got them from the hp website. i used to hav digital persona but lost it in the new install to windows 7. i then installed a program that was hidden in the program files and it fixed my problem. (also installed new beta driver from authentec website for 64 bit)

Well I've been having the same problem and found this from Microsofts site.

No beta software is available. Fingerprint Reader products are not supported on Windows 7 Beta.

    Check it out here.
My fingerprint reader & Digital Persona software worked fine with Vista x64, as well as with Windows 7 Beta and they are still working fine with Windows 7 RC, build 7100.

Latest DigitalPersona software can be downloaded from here. It is HP´s support page, but this software should work on all computers with Validity Sensors Inc. fingerprint reader.

I had the same problem, followed the steps and still no joy.

I finally got this working though.

Install DigitalPersona as normal BUT DO NOT click FINISH. Prior to finishing, modify the properties of the seven EXE files in C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin (DPAgnt.exe ,DPConsol.exe ,DPExpImp.exe ,DpFpLogonManager.exe ,DpHost.exe ,DPRunDll.exe ,DPWinLct.exe) as follows.
    1. Select “Change Settings For All Users”
    2. Chose to run in “Vista Compatibility” mode (I did not try with SP1 or SP2 version)
    3. Chose “Run as Administrator”
    4. Apply ... ok..... ok
Do these steps for the seven EXE files.

Go back to the install instructions and select Finish and then when the pop-up comes to reboot, Reboot.

After reboot, I needed to go into C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin and manually launch DPAgnt.exe. Then run the Fingerprint Registration Wizard. I was then able to add items.

ONE LAST THING. I needed to go back into C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin and go back under “Change Settings For All Users” and remove the “Run as Administrator”. I applied the changes, rebooted one last time and works like a charm.
this worked fine on the win 7 rc1, but now with rtm you cant even install the DigitalPersona software! anyone have a solution ???

Solution for Microsoft Fingerprint Reader and Win7 RTM

    Hello,

I have the solution for this problem!!

It was very difficult but I have done it!

    1. Install Windows 7 Release Candidate (my version is 7100)

    2. Install DigitalPersona 2.0 ( It possible to install in this version of Windows 7)

    3. do what Ilovewindows7 say ( + dont forget to restart your PC !! ) :

i have a microsoft windows finger print reader and i installed the latest drivers from digital personas website then i went into C:\Program Files\DigitalPersona\Bin find all the EXE files in this folder and then right click choose properties. on the compatibility tab, click on change settings for all users, then on run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows Vista. Also make that will be startet as "ADMINISTRATOR" these are the executables needed to be changed.

    DPAgnt.exe
    DPConsol.exe
    DPExpImp.exe
    DpFpLogonManager.exe
    DpHost.exe
    DPRunDll.exe
    DPWinLct.exe

    4. Then go back to Installiton Window an click "Restart Windows"

    5. Windows 7 starts again.

    6. Shutdown Windows 7 an restart

    7. The Login with Fingerprint works!

    8. Get the Windows 7 RTM Iso-Image, an save it to Desktop

    9. Download 7-Zip (Freeware)

    10. Extract the Windows 7 RTM-Image to desktop

    11. Go to the extractet Windows 7 to directory "sources"

    12.
Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad

    13.
Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000

You have to do this because normally you can`t install
Windows 7 TM oder Windows 7 Release Candidate

    14.
Save the file in place with the same name.

    15. Start the setup.exe from the Windows 7 RTM Directory an choose Upgrade Installation

    15. The compatibility check will done and you can upgrade your Windows 7 RC to Windows RTM !

    16. Ignore the warning because Digital Persona Software will not work with Windows 7

    17. Windows 7 RTM Version will be installed OVER the RC Version

    18. After Installing is complete go to the directory C:/Programme/DigitalPerson/bin an click right on the "dpagent.exe"

Go to Compability and then klick on ".... for all users"

    19. There is a catch on field " Running as Adminstrator" Delete it!

    20. Start new again!

    21. you have it ! It works properly with Internet Explorer

    22. To use Fingerprint Reader with Firefox download extencsion "Fingerfox SE " It works wonderfull ! But not use the Firfox 3.5 Version. I have Version 3.0

    22. Good luck! Sorry because my english not very well but I`m from German!

    Greetings

Successful driver install in Windows 7 (32-bit retail)

Thanks for all the research and insight. I was able to install the DigitalPersona Password Manager in Windows 7 (32-bit retail) and have documented the process here:

blogfeld: How to Use a Microsoft (DigitalPersona) Fingerprint Reader in Windows 7

    Hope others find it useful.

Hi sudd, which fingerprint reader hardware do you have? Is it an HP laptop with a built-in reader, the Microsoft standalone USB reader, a Microsoft combo keyboard/reader or mouse/reader, etc.?
