    Acer Aspire 4520 + Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit

    Hey all,

I am new to this thread and hope you can help.

I have done an upgrade on my Aspire 4520 from Vista to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Everything has worked well accept two problems I cannot seem to correct.

    1. I can't find my "Coprocessor" Driver

    2. Once I did a fresh install Bios and Windows 7 don't recognize my DVD-RW rom.

When in Bios, the driver will open and close, but it is not recognized past that, and I can't locate it anywhere in Windows.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Justin

    Hi Justin

1-co-processor may be fixed by a BIOS upgrade. Make sure you have a backup before you upgrade it.

    2-What dvd drive?

    3- System specs please

    Hey,

    Thanks for the reply

How would I go about upgrading my bios?

The laptop is an Acer Aspire 4520
    AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor
    1GB Ram DDR2
    Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 7000M graphics
    DVD-RW

I upgraded it from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

Since the upgrade neither the BIOS or OS recognize the CD Drive

    Thanks again

    Hey all,
Think I might be double posting but I don't see my last post so I apologize if I am.

So I am wondering if my Cd Drive is dead. It doesnt show in Bios or Windows. I can open the try on start up but once in the OS I cannot.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    For number 1 go here,

Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads, Notebook, Aspire 4520

and under Vista from the 64 bit dropdown select "Chipset_WHQL...", that should take care of the coprocessor driver.

For number 2 it is entirely possible the drive has gone bad. If it has installing Windows 7 had nothing to do with it and it is just coincidence., and if it isn't being seen by the bios then Windows won't see it either. I would start with pulling the drive from the laptop and cleaning the contacts as best as possible, and the put it back. If that doesn't sort it, then it could well be time to start looking for a new DVD drive.
