it seems like an internal error with Windows Update....I am understanding you right I think; when you try to check for updates it says it can't obtain the driver list right?

EDIT: Just did some searching and found this...

You should be able to install and use the Deskjet 970 driver built into
Vista for the Photosmart P1000. This will not support reading the photo
cards back to the computer but should work fine for printing.

I forgot to ask but might you post the error code being provided by WU so we might better understand the issue at hand

Since vista and 7 are so alike try this and post your results

Ok I looked through all the drivers for printers in 7 and I would try the HP 915 under printers->HP....post your results....and please post the Windows Update error codes

Hi I've tried the very first and second
    which is 910 and 915
it installs it okey like nothing wrong
BUT when it's trying to print something
    it doesn't print.
it prints out weird characters like symbols like
dollar signs, smilie faces, hearts etc.

    NOT working.

it didn't give me any error codes
when i try to get updated device list frm windows update
it js keep on saying it can't get it and try again
but its not working at all for me!

This is becoming quite a big driver issue now isn't it? From what I can gather (and I have been reading through various forums...) is that Your printer is not supported for anything above XP yet. The only driver that seems to install for it is one from Windows Update. Now before you break down and threaten to kill HP and Microsoft...can you ask windows update to update at all (as in check for updates). If this still doesn't work than try rebooting and kill your internet connection in the process....IF THAT doesn't work than you might have to repair Windows 7 (I will provide a llink to that tut here shortly)

sounds like something even greater is going on now....with Windows Update crashing and the latop won't turn on correctly than I would recommend a clean install of windows 7....it will probably fix all of your issues....
