Problem Updating Rapid Storage Technology  

I updated the Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver ver 9.​6.​0.​1014 driver for the ICH10R chip (controls a Raid 1 array for data) to ver 10.​1.​0.​1008. In the process of updating, I received an error message "An error occurred while registering one or more components. Setup will exit".

I checked device manager and the proper driver version number is installed (i.e., ver 10.1.0.1008). But, when I reboot, Rapid Storage Technology is not launched. It has to be manually launched from the tray. And, the version of the RST console is the old version number, i.e., ver 9.6.0.1014, not the new version.

How to I resolve this? Do I delete the Raid 1 array, uninstall and reinstall RST?

You might see if running the 10.​1.​0.​1008 Intel® Rapid Storage Technology installation file again may be able to repair it for you.

Thank you for the suggestion but I tried that already. If I disconnect the drives, uninstall the software, and reinstall the updated software, then reconnect the drives, will I be able to save the data?

You should be able to, but be sure that you connect them back to the exact same ports on the motherboard. I would also recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose on them just to be safe.
