I was going to suggest downloading and installing at least the public version 7100 RC of Windows 7 to see if some if not all of your problems have been fixed.

there have been several people with similar usb problems here. might want to search if you haven't already. the other thing is to go into device manager and see if the USB look like this one

    Hope this helps

just as a note: my motherboard dosn't like things plugged into the front panel when it's set to 'Hi-Speed' in the BIOS on other OS', maybe your setups behaving the same way..

I had to either select 'Full-Speed' instead of 'Hi-Speed' or plug things straight into the back of my PC.

Dunno if this will help but thought I'd mention. (Maybe it depends on the case connections. I honestly dont know..)

two places you can check is device manager check the usb decives and check for unknowns. You upgrade bios?

Second is event viewer. check windows log>applications , and systems for errors relating to the usb problem. wont be app crash but more likely time out, or exception errors.

Let me know if you need help with any of this.

thanks for filling in your system specs

I have an Asus AMD motherboard and have the same problems. Seems to happen most often when I'm listening to something in Itunes and then initiate a download of a podcast over my USB wifi adapter which is a common problem to this thread. I also get the problem while torrenting(legit linux distros of course!) and some times randomly while downloading/uploading through my browser.

I also have the same errors mentioned at this thread which actually has a solution. I wonder if the errors are inter-related? Do others who have the USB crash issue also see the AMD Northbridge errors in event viewer?

I will be trying the fixes in the technet thread to see if they have bearing on the USB crash issue and will report back.

Edit: I'm running x64 but other people have mentioned issues with x86 so I don't think thats the common thread. I just updated my BIOS to the latest version and installed the latest ACPI driver from the Asus PCProbeII package.
