Video driver stopped responding  

Hello all,

I recently upgraded to windows 7 from vista to try and solve an issue I have with my video drivers crashing whenever i do something graphically intensive.

I opened up a thread on the vista forums here:

But it doesn't seem that anyone can help me. I tried all of the basic troubleshooting steps, and have updated all the drivers on my system.

The problem I am having is that I upgraded my graphics card recently to an Nvidia 430GT. I have done numerous checks (RAM, CPU, power supply, updated every driver on my system, etc.), and have had the graphics card replaced, but am still receiving the same issue. When I load up video games I will receive the message "Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" at random intervals.Sometimes my system will completely freeze because the drivers won't recover. I contacted nvidia about the drivers and they had me try out a few driver versions (which i had already done), before telling me to get the graphics card replaced . Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? It really seems to be an issue between vista and the graphics card drivers, but i don't know how i would resolve that.

Hello i solve this problem disabling aero effects in the win7 themes, is a common issue today but there isnt fix yet, good luck

I already tried that, I still get the "display driver has stopped responding" error. Good tip though!

Any other ideas?

I am using nvidia nvidia drivers 266.58 whithout aero theme, i aplied win7 service pack 1 and runs well now, i have a GT240.

Maybe you can try the new nvidia drivers

I have the newest nvidia drivers, tried all the old versions, and have everything else (including windows 7) as up to date as it can get. Hasn't seemed to help.

I've had the nvlddmkm since forever, on two different PC's. Some people have it and some don't but for some silly reason I had it twice. That kinda means that unless I'm really unlucky it's something linked to me or my PC's, somehow. I've been trying many many things including punching my monitor and this morning I got pissed again (I'm in APB beta and the blackouts caused me to lose)and went over some stuff.

I went to Windows components and browsed through them, saw that Indexing was disabled (I always do this, I disable tons of things in windows as I don't want them) so, you know might as well try, enabled it again. I rebooted and since then I've had zero blackouts, been trying different games that normally cause me to rage at the nvlddmkm recoveries but nothing so far.

And it's not my PC, I have an i750 with 8GB and 2 Raptor X drives but enabling Indexing again solved it for me. If you think about it it actually makes sense a bit. Just putting this out there hoping I might help some other poor bum who's about to throw his PC into the drink."

Personally i fix it making a clean win7 install and using drivers 266.58 WHQL, after that everything works fine, i tried a lot of things before but nothing was sucesfull

That also didn't solve the issue. I ended up just switching back to my 8800 and everything works fine again. Really hope they fix this issue in the future, so that I can upgrade my graphics card one day.
