    Intel Extreme Graphics 855m

I finally got my video driver to work with 1024 x 768. You have to go to the one that windows creates by default in device manager and manually add the driver, click on have disk or (let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer), then you will tell it where the inf file is. I can't believe how fast win7 is over vista on this old machine! (Dell Latitude D500 1.3ghz w/ Intel Extreme Graphics 855m)

sorry for reviving a old thread, but the same problem applies to this desktop (eMachines T2385).
After a minute or 2, the computer just freezes, and the only thing I can do is a hard rest..... a bad thing to do......)

To everybody on here using the intel 82865g chipset

I found the solution to the intel 82865g chipset driver issue. I have the file that you need. If you need it send me your email address and I can send it to you. when you get it, youll have to run it in windows xp service pack 3 compatability mode in order for it to work. ive tested it on 29 different machines in my computer shop and it has worked on all of them. my email is construction_101@yahoo.com

I went HERE and downloaded the XP drivers from Intel. Failed the first time with a "wrong operating system error" but the installer then offered to try again with adjusted compatibility settings. Second try was successful. I can now use the "full" power of the 82845G integrated video on my Win7 test box. Seems OK so far.

I don't think there is a native Vista or Win7 driver for this chipset.
I have a Dell Dimension 2350 which has an Intel 845GL chipset according to the Dell documentation.

After a bit of a struggle with the actaul installation I was disappointed to find myself in a low resolution VGA situation. I could tell the |OS was operating well with everything else.

msterlings advice has really delivered the goods - thanks.

I installed the XP chipset package to an SD card then booted to Win7 navigated to the download and right -clicked . I chose properties and clicked both Windows XP SP2 and run as administrator. I then ran it - I did not get the error message that msterling experienced. I clicked the various boxes as the install took place.

I rebooted into a lovely looking 1024x900 resolution. It seems to be holding up nicely. Once I got the BSOD - I had just set up a new user and then went to my SD card and used Windows Live Photo gallery to run a slide show of the images on the card and it went BSOD. I haven't duplicated that exactly but near duplication haven't caused any problems Windows MoLive Movie Maker told me I didn't meet the minum hardware requirements so that one is out of the picture (sorry!).

It will be mainly for viewing Flash and browsing- I am watching the Wimbledon Men's Final as I type.

It will be more than adequate for most of our normal computing needs.

I am not sure why Service Pack 2 should be the compatibilty option I was just following what mrdek had tried.

It is working so well albeit in "Windows Basic" - a lot nippier than my other desktop that runs Aero ok. Though I thinks that's down to the better processor on the Dell 2350.

    Intel(R) 82845G resolution problems

    Intel(R) 82845G runing 7 Ultimate
My comp wont allow me to adust monitor settings. I have tried updating the drivers a thousand different ways.

Display Adapter just shows a standard VGA. I tried to download the drivers for vista but i get the message that my resolution is not high enough to run the setup. (Really, thats the problem im trying to fix)

Do I really need to go buy a graphics card or am I just missing something?
    Any advice would be great
