built new computer, win7 pro won't list HDD

    Hi people

I have built my very first computer, it has been a fun process up until now.

When installing windows7 professional 64 bit everything goes fine until it says
"WHERE DO YOU WANT TO INSTALL WINDOWS." = nothing is listed.

my new Hard drive (WD1002FAEX) shows up in BIOS but as the slave does this matter?
also in BIOS SATA control mode is set to IDE i have tried RAID and AHCI.

I have tried to press shift+F10 in windows install and do some of the commands but i am not 100% sure in this area

I have read alot of forums with similar symptoms. I feel like I have tried everything. Any suggestions would be great.

    system
    CPU: Intel core i5
    MB: GA-P67A-UD3R-B3
    HDD: WD1002FAEX

If it shows up in the BIOS, that is already a good thing. At least the connections work. I would do the following:

    1. Attach it to port0
    2. Format an allocate primary, active partition (suggest 100GB) with the bootable CD of this program - it is the last entry on the page.

I forgot to add that I had joined another hard drive form another computer. Both showed up in BIOS and in the windows install. I did not select because the Hard drive was not mine and the files were not backed up.
I want to add that the hard drive that I plan to use is brand new and never been used before.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

when you say Attach it to port0: do you mean the ports on the mother board.
My MB has six ports. as follows

    SATA 3_0 SATA 3_1
    SATA 2_2 SATA 2_3

    SATA 2_4 SATA 2_5

    Yes the SATA port 0.
Also partition and format that drive first. Some times with a new drive it need to be partitioned and formatted for the Windows installer to see it properly. you can do that with several free partitioning program Easeus is one of them.

I would attach it to Sata3-0. The 6GB bus will probably not buy you any additional performance, but port0 is where a system HD is best placed.

Also partition and format that drive first
    As I already suggested.

Ok. I have placed it in SATA 3_0 and the hard drive now shows up as master...... cool thanks for that.
Now I am downloading what you suggested. When that is finished downloading what do I do form there?

You burn the .iso to a CD, load the CD (have to change the BIOS boot order) and use the program. The UI is pretty obvious, but if you get stuck, post back. Some of the functions you need are under the Partition Tab > Modify. And when you want to execute a pending operation, you have to "Apply" (see bottom left of the window).
