And I will never change my childish 64-bit system dream for 32 bits... Instead I installed the latest UBUNTU version, where there are no problems with this driver. I think, it is deliberate policy of software and hardware manufacturers - to push the consumer to purchase new gadgets. Actually, so it happened. I have a new camera, no problems with drivers. Just it was a pity to part with the old one - it is fully operational.

Hi there
why not get round the problem by creating a small (512MB) XP Virtual machine (or even a 384MB one) and run vmware player.

You can then just power this VM on when you need to use your camera -- resources on an XP 384 MB Virtual machine are MINIMAL --this would even work on a small 1GB RAM Netbook.

To run vmware player (FREE) you don't need XP professional or above which you do require if you want to use XP Mode from MS.

You could also uses VBOX (Free as well) to create and run the XP Virtual machine but vmware is easy -- download and you could be up and running really quickly.

I use VM's a lot for older (but perfectly good) hardware such as scanners / plotters etc when there are no drivers in W7 or wherre the original mabufacturere has gone out of business. - Why junk perfectly good equipment if it still works perfectly and newr stuff doesn't add a lot that the original didn't supply.

The USB drivers will install perfectly on the XP VM.

Cheers

Hi, jimbo,

- Really bright idea. I will remember it if (God save) such situation reappear with more important gadget. Still, I hope, UBUNTU also could be of help in such situations, and sometimes, it may happen, we will say "farewell" to Bill's monster. Remember the film - "KIll Bill"?
