Seeny provided Dell Service Tag via PM. Intel Storage Matrix driver provided by Dell.

Seeny, are you sure you get the error message that the OP provided?

I am certain that you do not need to download this driver to install Windows 7. I am tempted to say that I categorically 100% know that you don't need this driver. I would almost go out on a limb and offer to buy you a new computer if you need this driver. Somebody stop me.

Verify that you are using build 7100 (or later) - dubious versions excluded.

Seeny is in error when he states that there is no driver listed at Dell for his Service Tag or particular model.

Dell can only tell you not to upgrade for at least two reasons - Windows 7 is not an official product yet and Dell Support is staffed with junior grade techs at tier one.

Intel Matrix Storage Controller is perhaps the most widely distributed controller currently in use. It is certainly among the most widely distributed.

I will still almost buy you a new computer if you need to update this driver to install and operate Windows 7.

My guess is: You did not upgrade your installed version of the Dell provided driver this past March. It is a Dell labeled "critical" update. The notice that Windows upgrade advisor is giving is extracted from a fixed table of error responses. In a manner of speaking, Windows is simply incorrectly translating something it does not have a specific error code for.

That error code, if it were there, would state: Keep your drivers updated.

Download and install the Dell driver referenced in my earlier post. Boot. Run the upgrade advisor again.

I have the same Intel Matrix storage controller.

If you could not find the driver using your service tag, you should leave the ftp library alone. It is fun to look at, but you can turn your PC into a paperweight with what you find there.
