I've recently updated the drivers for my NVIDIA GTX 460 card and it gave me the option to uninstall the old driver first, and then carry out a clean install of the new driver.

In my opinion, you have nothing to lose by uninstalling the driver you are updating and everything to gain in terms of better performance from your hardware.

It's probably best to create a restore point before you update, although you can of course roll back to the previous driver via Device Manager if you do experience problems after the update.
