32 bit. Am I missing something really obvious here? I installed the driver in Vista SP2 compatibility - is there a setting somewhere I need to change? Or should it come through by itself?

    Thanks all for your help.
    Did that help?

ALPS is the OEM manufacturer of all major laptop brands. Dell, however uses the custom software.
The driver for touchpad for HP will work on all laptops (with reduced function in Dell; such as two finger touch functions). Uninstall any drivers installed > Restart > Install right version (32/64 bit) of HP ALPS pointer software downloaded from their website. You can choose any model: because in all model the basic functions are same.
