USB 3.0 and Bluetooth conflict

I am using a Sony Vaio that originally came loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. I upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate x64. I have been using a bluetooth mouse for months. I recently purchased a USB 3.0 portable hard drive. Everytime I plug in the hard drive the mouse either becomes erratic or stops working altogether. I spoke to Sony and they informed me that they do not support Win 7 Ultimate because there are no drivers for Ultimate. This sounds very strange. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions. Sony's only solution is to reset my computer back to factory settings (Recovery). I think not!

It does seem to be a strange answer I am not near my desktop at the moment and have no bluetooth on my laptop so it is not possible to check on this. I suggest trying your blootooth adaptor in other USB ports it may well be that you will find one where it works.

Thanks Pooch but my BT adapter is internal. I did try moving my external HD to all 3.0 ports and got the same results. I also tried 2 different external HD with the same results. It has to be a conflict between the internal BT radio and the 3.0 ports or their drivers.

You could try visiting the sony site for support, this may be a known problem with a downloadable fix.
You could also try updating your drivers.
VAIO : Sony Europe
I did try to look but could not find the model number that you posted. It may be possible that different countries have different model numbers

Pooch, thanks again. I searched the website. The US site did have my model. I could not find anything so I called them. As I mentioned in my original post, they said it was caused by my upgrading to Win 7 Ultimate. Their only solution was to run Recovery are reset the operatiing system back to Win Home Premium. That is not acceptable to me. I did reload all my drivers and updated all. No change in results. Have you heard of Win 7 Ultimate requiring different drivers than Home Premium?

I can only see problems if you have changed from 32 to 64 bit but even then I believe there must be drivers available
Try these USB drivers; SONY/NEC/RENESAS Drivers & Firmwares
If you can find a similar Sony laptop on the support page that has 64bit windows installed you could try using those drivers
Or you could look here there are newer drivers; http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us

lol, It should not matter if its Home, Pro, or even Ultimate. A windows 7 driver is a windows 7 driver, the only thing you have to match is if its 32 bit or 64 bit. It's likely you got some one sitting behind a desk going by an on screen script. When the script didn't have an answer to your question he or she just improvised. They didn't happen to have a heavy foreign accent did they?

I kid you not, here is the transcript from the text I had with the tech from Sony:
Miguael_ > Randy, I'm sorry to inform you that Sony doesn't recommend changing the pre-installed operating system as the drivers are only available for the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system.Randy > is this my problem?Miguael_ > We cannot assure the full functionality of the computer with the Windows 7 Ultimate operating system as the drivers are not available for the same.Randy > will sony get drivers for ultimate?Miguael_ > I'm sorry to inform you that the drivers are not available for the Windows 7 Ultimate operating system

So you are saying this is just BS?

In my opinion yes it's BS. You can make up your own mind up though. The thing is, the only difference between editions is added features. They are all installed, its just that some are disabled. You can use any time upgrade to upgrade and not have to insert your windows 7 DVD to do it. The extra features are unlocked. I bet the windows home premium drivers work just fine on ultimate. All of the sites I go to for drivers for my PC's don't ask what edition of windows 7 I'm running, just what version 32 bit or 64 bit. I've never ever seen it stated that this driver only works on Home Premium or Professional, etc. I could see "maybe" hard drive encryption causing a problem, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to. I'm no expert but I'm not a noob ether, it just sounds like BS to me. Maybe somebody else will chime in on this.

My thoughts exactly the only differences are as I said before between 32 bit or 64 bit.
