does ASUS P7P55D motherbored last Bios version (Version 2003) stable?

    hi there

i new to all of this update bios thing and i just learned how to do it today (or so i hope...)

but i still too scared to give it a try because

    1. i never done it before and scare to loss my mobo

    2. i don't know what the stable version for it

    3. scare from blackout.. (lol)

anyway i need help from other user that have the same mobo that i do and update his bios allready before (it will really help if you even update it to the last version) ... i need to know if the very last version (Version 2003) of my mobo Bios is stable for it and not case any "side effects" ... because i saw some situations in the past when people update their bios and the results was : they got blue screens nonstop in different situations ,got only black screen after the pc start up,was force to format their pc (in really rare cases), make hardwares to stop wroking, make the pc slower, and etc. i really scared to try it also beacuse i don't know if there is any way to restore the bios to it older version after i update it

my motherbored is ASUS P7P55D (normal one, not deluxe and etc) which i bought in the end of 2009

and my bios version is still the same (i never update my bios before)

It's probably a good thing that you are scared.

A BIOS generally should not be updated unless you are having issues and have a strong reason to believe that a BIOS update will resolve those issues.

Why do you want to update the BIOS?

I have tried upgrading the BIOS for my Asus, and I found it easy to do, even though I read that I should be careful, but I didn't face any problem.

Any how I tell you what to do in case you want to upgrade it.

    1. Go to Asus support page and download the latest BIOS, its usually the one at top like BIOS 224.
    2. Have a USB key, reformat it, and copy the BIOS file on it.
    3. Reboot the pc, and enter BIOS by pressing F4 at the ASUS splashscreen.
    4. Alternatively, enter BIOS using F2 at the ASUS splashscreen, navigate to the Advanced tab, and check if you have the option Start Easy Flash.
    5. Look for EZ Flash utility, and follow the instructions. It should take about a minute.

i have some problems that may be solve if i update my bios, like... i keep getting some black screens (the screen turn off in the middle of game and say it have no signal) randomlly in some specifics games and sometmes my modem stop being detected when i restart the pc.

these problems can be the drivers fault (that i strongly suspect after see alot of users with the same problems) but it can be something that relate to my PSU. i just notice that the bios updates fix lot of stuffs that may help me in the electricity problems, it also Improve memory compatibility
and Improve system stability, not to mation that it fix bug that make my mobo to not being able to detct my iphone (well the fix is for iPod technically .. but it probably fix it for my iphone as well)

    thx for your help ^^

however it very import for me to know what these "instructions" are, like.. what usually it tell you to do? i don't want to end up don't understand what the instructions meant and stop the whole setup and kill my mobo because of that.

also it will really help me if someone that allready installed that Bios Version 2003 before will reply and tell me if it work fine ...(i don't want to update the bios and end up getting BSOD and etc because the version was unstable...)

Updating the BIOS along with other hardware drivers helps ending the BSODs, thats what it helped me when I got man of it. Now its all gone and I am not facing any trouble with my pc.
The instructions are very simple, I can't remember them as its been some months ago I updated BIOS, but it doesn't need an expert to update it. All the procedure takes about a minute or so.

    thx

can you plz tell me what your mobo model btw ? : ) (you don't mention it on your profile..)

also i was wondering about 3 things:

    1. is it possible to update your Bios when your system is installed over 1 year? i mean.. when you install your OS you set some settings, install drivers, app and etc... does it make them to stop working if i suddenly update my Bios version ? (i saw some situations when it happend to some people.. but it really rare and probably was in old mobos...)

    2. can you just update really old Bios to it last version all of the sudden? i don't need to update it step by step? like version after version?

    3. is it even possible to restore the Bios older version if anything went worng?

    *edit
btw are these the steps u done in the asus EZ flash tool?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pikBe...eature=related

(skip to the EZ flash part and ignore the rest)

    Answers to questions in order.

    1) Yes Bios is seperate from the operating system. It does not effect any of the Windows 7 software.
    2) Yes to latest version. It is not necessary to do in steps.
    3) Yes read your manual it will tell you how to save the old bios to reinstall if necessary.

A copy of the manual can be downloaded here.> ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P7P55D
Select your version of Windows then click the manual to download.
This is also where you download the new Bios.

btw... just wondering but did you update your mobo to the very last bios version ? (Version 1602 ) and everything is working fine?

our mobo modals may be different but it seem that your mobo last bios version have the same changes that my mobo bios have (at least from the change log)
so it may be the same update for both of our mobos.. (just with different version name and some little changes...)

As far as I know it is possible to update the BIOS at any time.
I am not sure whether its possible to restore the old BIOS, but I guess it requires the same procedure as updating, adding an older bIOS version instead of the new one.

The Youtube seems like the procedure I went through, and as you see its quite easy to update it.

And don't forget to update all the hardware drivers too, it helps to get a stable pc.
