Dell Vostro A860 - touchpad driver

Hi Everybody.

I have a problem with touchpad driver on my Laptop - Dell Vostro A860
Dell supports only Vista32 drivers - so i was thinking that i can use Compatibility Mode in Windows7. Negative !

Compatibility mode don't work and my touchpad is not installed.
Dell put on board (ALPS touchpads).
Is there anyone who have similar problem and fixe it ?

Unless Dell decides to OFFICIALY support 64 bit on the A860 you will have to try alternatives.

Dell likes to re-use things/designs/spec between models to save costs.

I would try this one first (reported to work on Latutude D830)

I have not tried it yet on a Latitude I will be upgrading.

I strongly suggest you do an image backup or at least a restore point before the install.

If that does not do the trick then the second one I would try is the Vista x64 driver from Synaptics.

Reported to wo work on a Vostro 1000.

Well on Synaptics driver Horizontal & vertical scrool don't work. :sarc:

How has the upgrade to 7 been

I traded work for a Vostro A860, I have been trying to get information from dell on upgrading to windows 7 64bit. All they seem to be able to tell me is that I can get 4 gigs of memory.

Was your computer on 32bit Vista before? That is what is on this computer. I see they have upgraded the cpu on the website from what is installed in this system.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if this was the only problem you had with the installation. I really need to be able to upgrade this computer, so that it will match my desktop and I can use the same programs on both computers and switch back and forth as needed.

This is becoming enough of a headache that I'm tempted to just give this one back and go buy my own barebones laptop. I think this is why I've never owned a laptop. I hate that I can't just exchange out parts and upgrade them when needed. I've been so spoiled building my own desktops for years now.
