    its funny you say that, i was wondering if it could be the hp. ive been fumbling around microsoft with no help. side note: i have not had any problems with my netbook. alot of people don't like the features etc., its portable, wireless, and pretty much does everything my desktop does except on a smaller scale, its just this quirk. ill try and contact hp.

    HP is the OEM, so they are the ones that support any Windows 7 problems. It's definitely an odd problem - I've never had that happen unless I plugged the USB device into a different port. I hope HP can help you.

    Hp had the solution. dwnld/install chipset/bios. she, the tech, nailed it first time. ive tried all my devices. they all work. plug/unplug/plug etc. life is sweeter. solution.... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52721.exe copy/pste/save/run anyway i hope this may help others.

    Thanks for sharing andrewmac28, glad you got it solved. I must admit I wouldn't have thought of the lack of chipset drivers causing an issue like this. :)
