Monitor not displaying 1920x1080  

I know this computer can do it. I've done in Win7 and on Ubuntu before.

When I open screen resolution, the highest one displayed is 1600x1200. When I got to my adapter settings and click "List Modes" the highest one shown is 1920x1440, though when that one's clicked, my monitor says "mode not supported"..

I've tried using powerstrip. But when i get to the part where you install the driver, it won't let me install it. i click it over and over and over again, but nothing happens.. no error message or anything, it just won't go...

I've been trying to get this to work for hours. I have some embedded graphics intel chip thing.. i couldn't find an exact name anywhere..

I'm not sure what else i could do.

what is the make and model of the monitor you are using? What type of connection does the monitor have to the PC?

The subject of this thread says 1920x1080 cannot work. Yet here you say 1920x1440 won't work. Which is it?

If you're using a true HDTV via HDMI cable, my guess is that 1920x1080 would be the maximum resolution supported... but that's just a hunch. Can't imagine 1920x1440 being available, so I don't know why that would even show as being available if you're using an HDMI connection.

A true plug-and-play monitor advises the video card driver of the maximum resolution it can accept, so quite frankly I'm surprised you even see 1920x1440 on a standard 16x9 HDTV. But maybe that's the result of using an ordinary HDTV instead of a true monitor. I'm just surprised here.

What video card and driver version are you using?

What are the dimensions of your Vizio HDTV? Are you using HDMI or DVI cable connecting it?

I'm not using an HDMI connection. I'm using VGA. I could NOT view 1920x1440 res on my tv. It was in the list of modes on my graphics adapter settings. I was just testing it out. I was using the generic graphics adapter driver. The res of my HDTV is 1920x1080. Using VGA.

I fixed the problem though. I downgraded back to XP and installed the drivers from Intel. So 1920x1080 works fine now. Kinda frustrating though, because I didn't really want to go back to XP. But I also didn't have a sound driver either, so I guess I had to.

Some of Vista drivers work in Win7, I use Vista printer driver in my Win7/64 laptop, since they didn't bother to write Win 7 specific driver, no problem, maybe you could find Vista driver for your sound? Generic graphics adapter driver would explain why you couldn't get 1080p to work in VGA, IMO. Generic drivers support minimum just to get you going and things don't work like they should often when using them.

Nope. The last versions of the drivers for my hardware were in 2003. I wish they'd just update them. It's not like it would be THAT hard for them. Unless something extremely large changes, they should still support current OSes.
