    Dell xpx m140 laptop.

    Dell Inspiron XPS M140 - Pentium M 1.86 GHz - 14.1 " - 512 MB Ram - 60 GB HDD-Hardware Infomation and Computer Tutorials

Here is a link to my laptop specs.. Never understood why Dell never released video drivers compatible with anything above xp for this device, which was purchased new in 2006. I have the system running with windows 7, and device manager reports no problems with any devices, but experience rating gives it a 1.0 for graphic, which I am thinking cannot be the case. This thing had a decent graphics card when it was released, and plays semi modern games ok with xp.. I did a little research online and found people had trubs finding graphics drivers compatible with vista.

Anyone on these boards have any advice??

With a nvidia 512 graphics card you should run over 3. I have an old dell as well with a built in intel 945 and my graphics wei is 3.2

Im pretty sure that your driver is not correct. could you go into device manager (type device in search) and find the video device. Is it listed as video and working correctly? do you have any devices that are "unknown"?

No devices are unknown in device manager.. According to one doc I read, this machine should be aero capable, but in another it stated that although it meets hardware requirements, the drivers were never updated for Vista, so it cannot.. Seems pretty lame that a supposed gaming laptop purchased in 2006, the year of Vista's birth, should not receive a driver update for graphics card. I have been looking all over. Driver detective says it can get me what I need, but I am not sure whether it should be trusted..

You are right about dell only having XP drivers. You might want to try intels driver for your chipset. May work or may not. There isn't any money in it for dell to keep updating an older machine
