"Display Driver Has Stopped Responding And Has Recovered."

    Hello,

I've been having a persistent issue whenever I would play The Sims 3: After a variation between 5-30 minutes of game play, the game would freeze, black-out and then resume its normal procedures, flash black again then normal, and it will continue that pattern until a blue screen shows up saying that my computer has been shut down to prevent damage, with this error message before the blue screen: "Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator for Windows 7(R) has stopped responding and has recovered" (Though the recovered part seems like a complete lie.). I have tried the following to try to fix this issue:
    • Clear my temporary files
    • Ran disc clean-up
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled my display driver (about 3 times already, and it doesn't seem corrupt, AND while using safe mode)
    • Cleared any unnecessary processes that were running in the background
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled the game itself, AND bought a new disc of the same exact game
    • And I looked for the latest driver updates

I run Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with an Acer laptop, and the game was working fine until the few recent game updates. My computer isn't generally slow, in fact, it is running faster than ever (at 2.4 GHz), and I still experience this problem even after I have done all of those things listed above. Is it still my laptop's fault or the game itself?

Whoever can help me with this will be much appreciated! Thanks.

"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the bluescreen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception.

Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OSs like XP to crash.

As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.

If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.

If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.

Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.

Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.

If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.

I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps Let us know if you need help STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting - Windows 7 Forums STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

I've been having the exact same problem!!
But I don't get a blue screen, mine just goes black and I have to press ctrl+alt+delete otherwise my whole laptop crashes and I have to hold down the power button to restart the laptop.
My laptop is toshiba, not acer...but I have no idea if that makes any difference >_<
I'm not techy or anything, so I'm not very good when it comes to techy talk.
All my drivers are upto date, nothing can be updated or anything, I've tried it all...

If there is anything I can do, then please let me know :)
    Thank you xx
