Dell Dimension 4550 Upgrade - No Audio Driver/PCI Input Device

I updated my Dell to Win7 last night and I realized that I don't have any sound drivers or cards. I have been Googling for about 3 hours now without any luck. Can any one help me?

    Have you tried Dell?

If they dont have a win 7 driver an earlier one can be used if it is installed in compatibility mode.

Grab the Vista drivers and use compatibility mode during installation.

I have tried that. I couldn't install the right ones or I didn't find the right ones

Also which part in compatibility mode? The Extractor or the actual Setup file?

I tried that and no such luck. Unless I have the wrong driver file. Could you link me to one?

Try a post in the sound section of this forum and hope member "Fireberd" answers.

He is something of a Dell sound guru--he has many thousands of posts on Dell forums, mostly with sound issues. Dell PCs can be peculiar.

    Hi Zeromanarmy
There is no win 7 or Vista driver for your Dim 4550 it is to old , there is only win 2000 and XP
drivers, if it does not work in compatible mode for XP your are out of luck !!
You may find a sound card that will work for win7 if you look around .
    Good luck

    Hi Zeromanarmy,

After googling around it seems a pretty common issue, I checked dell support but only found XP drivers , however google has thrown up this site Windows 7 Drivers for SoundMax ADI 198x Fix | Bondy's Blog There where a lot of dell models with that audio chip fitted!

Hope its of some use .
