My own approach is the following (on new install):
1) Make note of driver versions on the CD that came with the Motherboard
2) Check Motherboard website for any newer versions -- if found, download those (on another PC, of course)
3) Install the drivers from the motherboard CD, except with newer versions, install those as well. In my experience, the motherboard CD install program usually allows you to select which drivers to install.
4) Reboot PC. If still have Device Manager indications, install additional drivers from hardware manufacturer's websites.
5) Reboot PC. If still have Device Manager indications, use Windows Update to search for newer drivers.
