Can't install audio driver  

Neither of the applications(only two there) in HDA would pin to the task bar.

Can you tell me if Win7 64 is supposed to have Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD audio?
The only thing that is in my Device manager is High Definition Audio Controller.

The Gigabyte FAC on installing the sound drivers says that the system must have the MS UAA driver, but that may be for Win XP only.

Also, could a hardware issue be my problem, and would a sound card added to a PCI-E slot give me sound?
Still unresolved but hoping.

Are you sure you SHOULD have a Realtek control panel?

I have Realtek ALC892 on a Gigabyte board, but have no idea when that control panel was introduced.

What I have noticed is if you are just using the default Windows 7 audio drivers you likely won't see a Realtek control panel. All that shows up in the task monitor is just the windows sound app icon. Thats all I see on my two ASUS motherboards until I install the ASUS sound drivers. One is Realtek and the other is VIA. Once I install ASUS sound drivers I get a second speaker Icon. On this PC its listed as VIA HD Audio CPL, on my other PC it shows up as Realtek HD Audio Manager. They also show up in Control panel. My sound works with the default windows drivers but I can't reassign the audio jacks etc like I can from the other control panels.

If you have a Video card with an HDMI jack you will have a High Definition Audio entry for it under Sound in Device Manager. On this PC it shows up as NVIDIA High Definition Audio. I also have a VIA High Definition Audio entry. On my other PC all that is listed is Realtek High Definition Audio. These are both ASUS motherboards though. You should have an ICON in your task manager down next to the clock and one in control panel to launch the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Have you tried one or the other or both?

I am using mb_driver_audio_realtek_azalia---copied directly from Gigabyte and for my GA-EX38-DQ6 MB I have used the two step installation and I always get only the ATI HD Audio installed. It is possible that the control panel and drivers for my S/PDIF outputs are not included with that driver. That is what I am trying to determine. And if they are not---where can I get a driver with the control panel included?? Everyone says to get the MB specific drivers, but still I am stumped.

Make sure they are 64 bit drivers or they will not install. On my other PC I used the ASUS supplied Realtek drivers and didn't have any problems. On this PC the ASUS drivers didn't work very well. I got a lot of drop outs etc and ended up downloading my drivers from the VIA website. I have an SPDIF connection on one of these two PC's but have never used it. The motherboard has the header but I don't have the jack/cable to connect to it. I don't have anything to plug into it anyway.

EDIT: Is this a new install, and the first time you've tried Windows 7 64 bit on that PC?

Can you go HERE and have a look for me? It seems to indicate that it is for 64 bit OS.

All that is in my DM under sound devices is the ATI HD Audio--which is on my ATI 4800 series Vid card.

There is NO icon for Realtek on my task bar nor any Realtek entry in my control panel. However, when my sound was working under my 32 bit OS those two items were present.

Is it incompatable with the 64 bit OS???

If you selected "Windows 7 64bit" in the Choose your OS: drop down you should end up with the correct driver. If you were trying to install the 32 bit driver you should get some kind or error message like " OS not supported" or similar. What happens when you run the setup for the sound driver installer? Do you get an error message or does nothing happen? If you have UAC turned off set it back to the recommended setting. I don't know why but sometimes turning it off screws up some program installs. Another thing to try is right clicking the file that launches the audio driver installer and selecting "run as administrator". I would think that if it was installed correctly you should have those missing Icons.

EDIT: Both of my ASUS motherboards are running Windowss 7 64 bit.

I'm calling it a night, will check back tomorrow.
