Forcibly installing an old version of a driver?  

The method I have indicated has always allowed me to force installation of drivers, including some that were the wrong drivers, at the time (always thankful for restore points).

Did you try my suggestion? Same results?

Yes, we have tried the same exact steps - with the same results. I don't know - maybe it's something to do with the computer. It's a new Laptop, though.

Is there a way to uninstall the present .sys files? (if you delete/rename them, Windows automatically produces a copy). Or perhaps you have a differnet suggestion?

I have the same problem! I have just installed a new driver for a network adapter and the speed decreased. I then picked the one with the old name, but the speed still remained low. I checked the version - it is newer than the old driver with which the speed was OK. How can I now install the driver version which came with the computer? In the driver list I only can pick the driver name, but NOT the driver's version!
