Problems using dual screens with a laptop and monitor...  

Hey. Firstly, apologies if this is a noob question but any guidance will be helpful.

Basically, i have a LCD monitor connected through HDMI to my laptop and both screens are working at the moment as duplicates.

What i am after is the screens to coincide and for me to be able to drag a window from my laptop to monitor, or vice versa.

When i have the 'extend desktop on 1 and 2' setting selected my laptop works as normal but the monitor screen only shows the wallpaper of my laptop and nothing else.

Is there anything i can do from here to be able to use both screens together or am i simply stabbing in the dark?

So what happens if you drag a window from one screen to the other or press
(Windows key + shift + >) or (Windows key + shift + <) ?

Nothing, it just acts as a single screen on the laptop and the window moves around the screen like normal. The monitor only shows the wallpaper and that is what makes me curious as it seems to connect just not work?

Just so you know, your toolbar will only show on your main screen. The other screen will just show your wallpaper until you open a window on it. If you go here, Display - Change Main Display do you see two screens?

How embarrassing... I was dragging the window the wrong way as my monitor is on the left. Sorted now though!

I was thinking that might be the case, thats why I mentioned the Windows key + shift key + > key keyboard shortcut for moving a window from one monitor to the other. Only problem is I got it wrong, its Windows key + shift key + arrow key. ops, If you go back to that screen in the tutorial where it shows your two monitors, you can reverse them just by dragging one to the other side so they match how you actually have them positioned. It may make things easier.

Haha i was curious about the shift keys and why it wouldn't work!
It's sorted now and i'm messing around with the monitor drag setup so i can have the monitor attached to a wall above my laptop for films and stuff, it's a great feature.
