    E-SATA to external Case.

    Hi
My mobo is a Gigabyte EG41MFT-US2H. It has E-SATA connection and I have an Icy Box External case with a WD 5000AAKS Hdd installed. It works fine for back up, but I cannot get the E SATA to work. Tried 2 more cables that I know work with my HP DV7 lappy, still no joy. Is there some special method I have to use?

You should have AHCI enabled both with the correct hotswap SATA drivers, and in your BIOS.

If you don't then your eSATA drive will only be detected if connected at boot-up.

Beware of changing the BIOS to AHCI if you haven't loaded the SATA hotswap drivers though, it will most likely refuse to boot...

If you didn't load the correct SATA driver at Windows Setup originally then there is a way to force them on.

A tutorial can be found here...
