Sony and its non existent dvd drivers

HI im new to this forums but surely not to forums itself.

i'll get straight to the issue at hand. my Win 7 sony vaio model VGNNW240F seems to not want to recognize DVDs but CDs. i recently also called the tech support who for some reason deleted my upper value in the registry on my dvd drive. i have no clue what it is and has no clue how to get my DVD writer back to full functionality. until then i only can burn and read CDs which is hurting biz.

I'd recommend installing the latest firmware (see attached) and then the latest s/w driver for your optical drive.

Dual drives use 2 optical pickups, one for DVDs and one for CDs, it's possible the DVD pickup is bad. Is the PC under warranty? A Guy

I'd try to find a Sony authorized servicer in your area. Perhaps start with support online and see if you can't find an authorized servicer in your area.
