    Ati x2300

I got my Radeon X2300 mobile card to work under windows seven by using Vista X1900 desktop driver and ran Mobility Modder.NET on it.

the versions i used are as followed.
    9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd
    MMDotNETSetup1210

I tried the 9-8_beta_win7_32_dd_CC but it would not install the driver, after using Mobility Modifer the driver would install but not start.

Reverting back to 9.3 worked perfectly, A reboot was required to start the driver.

So far I have only got the driver it's self to start, and have not bothered with CC, but am working on it now.

a quick update, got CC to start, worked ok in basic mode. I was able to drop the 3D quality to min as i wish to play Fallout rather than watch a slide show. However it hangs when attempting to used advanced mode. probaly due to the miss matched versions.

All I did was run mobility modifer on the 9.8 driver set and that gave me the option to insall CC, it was not an option before I ran MM. I deselected the driver as I knew that version of driver would not start. further testing is required to see if it is stable.

My next step is to attempt to install both driver a CC from a single package. hopefully the 9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc will work.

I'm about to remove all components and reinstall with modifed 9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc package.

Ok, I was able to install both driver and CC from the same package but it took some thought.

After running MM on 9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc the option for CC was now avalible but the driver was not. To get around this problem I replaced the "package" dir with the one from the modifed 9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd. Then both options were avalible.

So to install a X2000 series driver and CC at the same time these are the steps to follow.

    Download:
Mobility Modder from - Mobility Modder - DriverHeaven.net

9-3_vista32_win7_32_dd (found in option 2 it's the first driver on the list) (23.6MB)

9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc (Catalyst Software Suite) (89.8 MB) from - ATI Catalyst Legacy Display Driver

    Install Mobility Modder
Install both ATI drivers but cancel the installation after the install files have been unpacked.

then run Mobility Modder on both sets of ATI drivers.
then copy the C:\ATI\Support\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd\Packages to C:\ATI\Support\9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc\Packages and overwrite the contents.

Now you should be able to run C:\ATI\Support\9-3_1_legacy_vista32-64_dd_ccc\Setup.exe and perform an express install. however if you wish to check if the Driver and CC are going to install select custom setup instead.

this is what you want to see.

It seems that any driver version over 9.3 will fail to detect or start properly on windows seven.

Now I am able to use CC in advance mode with out a problem, hopefully.

Like you, I'm running one of the legacy cards, and have been disappointed to learn that AMD/ATI has dropped driver support for those cards under Windows 7. The Legacy driver 9.3.1 is the last one that will work. Nothing newer will work and, at least according to their release notes, they will not be upgrading the newer drivers to work with the legacy cards.

Glad to see you got it working.

9.3.1 would not work for me it would not detect the card at all. replacing the drivers with 9.3 seemed to work, only took me about 2 hours to sort it out. But I am a PC tech and I get paid well for my trouble shooting ability, I would not have given up untill my laptop was a pile of smodering ash.

which card do you have and how functional is it.

Wow, exactly what I was looking for. Mouse cursor would switch between arrow and hour glass constantly after installing drivers from ASUS' web site (original driver for my ASUS A8JR and latest Catalyst). Following OP's instructions solved the problem.

One can find all ATI drivers here: Listing of directory pub/drivers/ati/

    Thanks again! Great work.
