I uninstalled my old driver to update them and when I open the catalyst installer, I only get to choose install location and when I click install button it loads really fast to about 3/4's full then crashes with no error report given. Please help!!

Unfortunately this could be any number of things if no error report is given.

    Give the following a try:

    • Check to see if your firewall has blocked/sandboxed the catalyst installer. I personally use Comodo Internet Security and often find new files get sandboxed and can't install/run properly as a result. If this is the case you'll need to add the installer as a trusted file via the control panel of your chosen firewall.
    • Redownload the catalyst installer. There's always the chance that you have a damaged file.
    • Boot up in safe mode and try to install the catalyst installer from there.

catalyst and it's installer both require updated .net framework elements too. I think it needs to be 3.5 or better.
Also what card are you using?

How do I check which card I am using? I recently installed SP1 if that would have any effect on this.

Ya sorry, its a laptop Acer Aspire 7745g. When I run dxdiag my display name say: Standard VGA Graphic Adapter and Manufacturer says: (Standard Display Types). Prior to uninstalling my old driving it was something along the lines of ATI Radeon Mobility 5xxx

Just do one thing bro.. Go to start->control panel->device manager.
Click on display adapters.. It wil show ur ati graphics. Right click on it and uninstall it. Then u have 2 boot ur system again. And after the boot the system wil install the driver software automatically. Then install ccc. It wil work 4 u. Bst f luck.

    Catalyst drivers and Laptops

    Being a Laptop..

Is the Driver installer from Acer?

You will not be able to use the Catalyst installer from ATI/AMD.. well you can if you hack the installer (the how to link escapes me at this time).
The reason many of these tools do not tell you what the "Card" is is because many look to the registry - HKLM typically.. and if the drivers have been removed... there is nothing in the registry to feed these programs..

As for no error message? Did you check the event viewer? I know it is a bit of a hunt.. this site has a handy tool (SF-Diagnositc) to help you sort these sort of things out.

yes, I agree - for laptops, it is generally better to go the manufacturer's site
    and download their recommended driver..

the AMD has mobility drivers which should work, but often the manufacturer
has a special version, designed to work with their own hardware..
