is this for the intel i7 920 as well, i could of sworn i even updated before those i downloaded this as well

    INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 5, 4, 3, 900 Series Chipsets

and i went to my device manager and it says 2006...
    Sigh... not again.

The INF update utility is NOT A DRIVER. That's why the device manager says the drivers are from 2006. There are no more recent versions available, you are fine the way you are.

All the INF update utility does is display the correct name of the device in Device Manager. It doesn't update the driver, and it doesn't need to.

Hello Spanky and welcome to Seven Forums!

Yes unfortunately your desktop board is not going to be supported
by Intel for use in Windows 7.

Have you tried using Windows Update to locate your drivers?

Sorry to ask a dumb question but will this help with my 5.1 surround sound issues i'm experiencing (instead of using speaker fill and the room option to force the surround sound on the realtek sound manager?)

    thanx

Anyone who wonders why they are running the install program, but not seeing anything update should read the readme files.

By installing from command line and using the switches "-overall" "-overwrite" and "-overide", the inf files will install correctly, although you may need to repeat the process more than once to get them all on, and even then some need doing manually.

    Best way to do it:

First, ensure you have the latest version of the utility.

Open an elevated command prompt (search in start menu for "command" and hold shift, ctrl and press enter to start it) get to the folder where your INFINST_AUTOL.EXE is (in the example below its in "inf" on my "d:" drive)

    so your sat at d:\inf

type "infinst_autol.exe -a" (without the quotes) and hit enter, this extracts the files from the exe and places them in C:\Program Files\Intel\InfInst ready to manually update any items in your device manager that won't do automatically.

Now type "infinst_autol.exe -overall -overide" (again without quotes), this runs the setup program and forces the inf update on all available devices, even if third party drives are installed and including the storage devices. You'll notice setup takes longer and some items will update properly. As mentioned above you may need to run this more than once.

Finally, I'd do a restart here and then any further devices that still haven't updated in your device manager you can update manually using the "update driver" option when you right click on it - chose the "browse my computer option", tell it to search for the driver in the following location - C:|Program Files\Intel\InfInst and ensure you check the "search subfolders" box.

Word of warning which I think is what people have been trying to get across is that this may not yield better results for you. OEM manufacturers often tweak the hardware they get from people like Intel, then tweak the drivers from them to make it work properly meaning you may lose functionality. That said, I've a 66% success rate with this so far.

    Regards

I really don't know but nevertheless you should update ALL of your drivers
to the newest version(including this one)

Unfortunately your desktop board is not supported by Intel for use on a Windows 7 OS.

You should try the drivers in the beginning of this thread.
