New Intel Chipset drivers November 20, 2013

November 20, 2013 New Intel Version 9.4.0.1027 of Intel's Chipset Device Software is now available. This update adds support for about a half dozen new devices.
Intel's INF updates are not drivers in the most technical sense, but are instead updates to important files that tell Windows how to use Intel integrated hardware. However, I usually still refer to them as drivers.
Note: If you're not experiencing any issues with your hardware then this update probably isn't necessary, though I've rarely seen Intel chipset driver updates cause any problems.
Download Intel Chipset Device Software v9.4.0.1027
This updated Intel chipset driver (linked above) works for both 32-bit and 64-bit editions of Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, and only with the following Intel chipsets:
    • Intel 3 Series Chipsets
    • Intel 4 Series Chipsets
    • Intel 5 Series Chipsets
    • Intel 6 Series Express Chipsets
    • Intel 7 Series Express Chipset
    • Intel 8 Series Chipsets
    • 2nd Generation Intel Core Chipsets
    • 3rd Generation Intel Core Chipsets
    • 4th Generation Intel Core Chipsets
    • Intel 800 Series Chipsets
    • Intel 900 Series Chipsets
    • Intel Xeon 3400 Series Chipsets
    • Intel Xeon 5500/3500 Series Chipsets
    • Intel Server/Workstation Chipset
Important: If your Intel chipset isn't listed above, or you're not sure what motherboard you have (or if it's even an Intel motherboard or one with an Intel chipset), you can always perform any Intel related updates using their automatic Intel Driver Update Utility.

My motherboard is an ASUS Z87-A with an i5 4670-k processor if I'm not mistaken, it needs this update anyone know for sure? Thanks! :) Found answer, I'm up to date already. :)

What's the current state-of-the-art thinking on how necessary this software is?

I think I read 2 or 3 years ago that it is increasingly less important on Win 7, but that many still use it because "it can't hurt".

Is it found on OEM PCs?

I noticed that my Intel chipset software was from 6/21/06 and the Intel updater said there were two updates available .One for the graphics and one for the chipset.

The graphics driver installed but put Bluetooth capability on board although one aspect of that said it could not start .

The chipset driver would not install successfully though for some reason.

Do you have any reason to believe the new version would be useful?

You'd probably see what improvements it offers in the release notes.

Are you experiencing any problems that are referred to in the release notes?

Generally, you don't need to update it barring specific issues. Just like drivers in general, but I realize some folks just can't help themselves and think they are missing something. I prefer to let sleeping dogs lie--particularly for firmware and BIOS updates that can render hardware useless if they go wrong.

Thanks so much for your very informational packed post , actually no, i don't have any reasons to update drivers just because they are available , i suppose i think it would give me a possibly littler more responsive system.

My computer runs fine , i just think that since i bought the laptop quite a few years ago , it has an intel i5 2430 processor , 8 gigs of ram and runs win 7 sp1 64 bit and i see drivers from quite a few years ago (thats what the dates show at least) i needed to change to newer versions .

You seem to be saying that is far from the case .

Thank you so much , learned something new today.
