graphics card upgrade is not worth it as it will be very hard to get AGP version of supported card or even impossible :) because everything is pcie for some time now.
so youre stuck with default VGA driver, you may try to do compatibility mode for xp driver but there is no guarantee that will work.. still i noticed that youre using RC build of windows 7 why is that so? there is already sp1 :)
default VGA driver should offer better color set at least 16bit not 256color as it looks like from your screen shot.

Dude, that hardware (mobo+gpu) is not win7 compatible, time for upgrade or time to go back to XP, whoever told you it was supported told you wrong, since the card is DX7 or 8 and Win7 needs DX9 at least for aero.

you dont need aero to run windows 7.. on older hardware i set classic theme.
and it runs better than xp.

I tried the 71.90, 72.30 and the 91.31 forceware before I asked on this site and none of them work. I can't understand it.
As mentioned, Unfortunately your card is simply not supported and will not work correctly with Windows Seven. Age wise it's far too old told to work correctly in Seven.

    Hard - yes, not impossible.

Since you're in India - realistically your best option would be Ebay.

I have an AGP 7600GS 512MB I'd give you if I could. I know for a fact that with some older Forceware drivers it works with Seven and supports Aero.

(I'm not sure If I actually still have the card or if I chucked it )

    Hi everyone

Thanks for all the suggestions, if im being honest I haven't got time recently to check some of them but when I do I will update you all on it.

Pebbly: Your right I did get the p and d mixed up, is it still relevant for me to download that chipset you recommended?

Storm13; Thanks for the info, much appreciated

Viadas: Its prob not worth it, especially considering the amount of time I spent tinkering with it but its also because of the amount of time I spent on it is also the reason I want to fix it. Its just one of the jobs that just completion is satisfaction. Also I have updated to SP1 now.

OldMX: I might go back to XP, but as Viadas points out it should work with windows 7 with the classic theme.

Smarteyball: I know its a bit of a dinosaur setup but it is just driving me crazy especially when people say "hard - yes, impossible no", it make me want to do it even more then.
Thanks for the offer of the graphics card but its OK, oh and the flag is Irish but yeah I can see why you would think it was Indian..........first time I was every mistaken for an Indian and prob the last.

In an old computer I'm using a Geforce4 MX440 with driver version 61.77 for windows XP. Probably works well with your video card.

En un equipo antiguo estoy usando una Geforce4 MX440 con el driver para windows XP versión 61.77. Probablemente funcione bien con su tarjeta de video.
