    Printer installation problems.

    Hello all!
my name is Kenneth and this is my first post,
seems to be a real nice place to find knowledge
    about windows 7.

I've searched for a solution on this forum but couldn't find it,
so I'm trying to get help from one of the seven forum members

Well, I've only been running win7 for a couple of days, so I am not
well oriented in this system, however I've worked alot in the past with
win nt4 / windows 2000 / novell netware / slackware .... but I have pretty much been completely away for 5-6 years now. Nedless to say I've forgot
pretty much everything except my birthname :) (end of presentation) *grin*

    My system:
    Windows 7 (7600 I do believe) Ultimate edition 64bit
    Asus M2/N
    AMD athlon dual core 5000+
2gb memory (soon to be 4)
    asus Nvidia 8600gt
1 sata II disk as system
    4 ide 133 as storage - controlled by a promise 2300 card

    and then the problem child:
Xerox Phaser 6110 MFP (usb connected)

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=Xerox%20Phaser%206110MFP%2FS%20-%20multifunction%20%28%20color%20%29&v=Xerox&uid=6110MFPS&pf=0π=2&c=Printers%20%26%20Scanners&sc=Mul tifunction&os=32-bit

I've tried to DL (from xerox) their "generic 64 bit driver)
their (vista 64 drivers) and done a search and remove the drivers
in between to get rid of possibly faulty drivers.

Windows update finds an updated driver for the xerox 6110mft
dl it, and then it fails .... tried and tried using all kinds of tricks
(uninstalling and check the remove drivers) between the attempts.

The printer is a color laser / scanner / copier (gr8 printer btw)
and everytime the scanner installs just automatically. But the printer
part of it fails every time. Giving me this error message:

== printer driver was not installed the printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks nt 4.0 drivers ==

I would greatly appreciate any help cause it seems I've got stucked in a
    unsuccessful loop.

thanks in advance, and have a good one

    Hi, welcome to 7 forums.

Have you tried to install the driver for the printer in Compatibility mode.
