Need driver for a Lexmark X 2400 printer

    Hi,
My husband's Windows XP computer stopped working and his Lexmark x 2400 worked great with this computer.

I gave him a Windows 7 laptop to use and I cannot get this printer to work with that computer.

I have been searching the internet for a printer driver but am unsuccessful. I would appreciate any help you can find so I can load this old printer to the Windows 7 computer.

I really do not want to buy a new printer for him as he is in a nursing home and now it is hard for him to adjust to the new electronic devices.

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Jean

I was going to load the printer driver CjZ2400en32 but after thinking about it for awhile I wasn't sure if this would work at the Laptop says it is "Windows 7 Home Premium (x64).

Does this mean that the driver that I downloaded is only good for 32 computers and not 64.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Jean
I think this is the one you need. Same driver for a number of different printers, yours in amongst them. Just fill in Windows, then Win 7 and download the driver.

OK, I tried ad tried to install and run this new driver that was recommended. I finally gave up. I deleted everything that had to do with the old drivers that came with the x 2400 CD and installed and ran the new drivers.

It got hung up several times. It would tell me to put in the USB connection and when I did, I could not continue. It seemed the install package got hung up. It also was installing it for the Z 2400, not the x 2400. Maybe this was the difference.

In any case, I'm going to try to buy Paul a inexpensive printer for the Windows 7 laptop and I'm sure a new printer should be capable with the 7 computer.

Thank you anyway for all your help.

    Hi Jean
Don't want to labour the point as I'm sure that you have more than enough to do but I cannot find Lexmark printer X2420 model listed. I presume it is a Scanner, printer combo. Is it very old?
EDIT: One more thing, is this the file you downloaded "cjZ2400en64.exe" ?

Thanks for really trying to help me. This printer was free when my son bought a new computer. He gave it to us because he didn't need another printer. But, I'm sure it is a scaled down model but it did the job for my husband when he had his Windows XP computer. But when his XP computer crashed, I brought him my laptop which is running Windows XP and that is where the trouble started. YES, it is a scanner, copier and printer combo, but he only used it for a printer. As cheap as this little printer is, it worked great for him.

I also brought the printer home and hooked it up to an old XP computer and it worked great.
Then I brought it back to the Nursing Home and loaded the new printer driver, "cjZ2400en64.exe" but then it hung up after I inserted the USB cable. Maybe I just don't know how to properly install the new driver.

I also do not want to spend the money on a new printer because they are so fancy and large and he doesn't need all those extras. I'll go today to shop around for another one and let you know how I make out.

Thanks again for all your thoughts.

    HI Jean
Understand all that you have said but are you absolutely certain that the model is X2400 because I have contacted Lexmark and they tell me there is no model X2400! X2400 is a series number not a model number. There is a model X2450 plus others. The driver for these is "cjqZ2400en64.exe". Happy to help you further especially to save the expense of another printer. Can you have a look at the base of the printer. There may be a small sticker or plate with ther details. Might see a serial number but it is the model number we want. All this aside if you click this link
and choose Windows in the first box and 7 64 bit in the second then click either of the downloads they will download "cjqZ2400en64.exe". I'm sure this will work. You might have to make sure that any old software for a Lexmark is uninstalled first but before Clicking run on the new download, make sure the printer is plugged in, switched on and the USB lead is connected. We've just got to get this printer working now!!
