a hard drive, 2 of them, then a mp3 player, then a headphones, and they are not broken, nor is the usb ports, (3 dif ones on 2 sides of laptop) no way they all broke at once...... another interesting thing is that they are all 2.0 but 2 of them say 1.1?

Besides Everest pointing out the ATI RS480M Northbridge have you tried the System Info for Windows tool I mentioned at the top of the thread? When opening "hardwares" you click on the motherboard item which will then display the make and model board possibly an Asus model common with HP.

Have you tried using the Windows Update option and looking at the optional hardware/software updates at all? Once you know the make and model and can look over the specifications for the board you can go right to the chipset manufacturer itself if needed for the latest there.

The problems being seen there however seem to point at something else like a bad install of Windows to begin with if there isn't any problems with the board being seen since Windows has it's own generic usb drivers to start you off until everything is on.

USB device not recognized - but there is no usb device connected
It's recognized in device manager as "Unknown device". But I've not connected anything to pc. Also all of my usb ports are working at 1.1 speed. When I try to connect any device, I get the message "that it could work faster, if i connect it to hi-speed usb port". Any suggestions?
