best order for installing drivers?
What is the best order for installing drivers and windows updates?
What is the best order for installing drivers and windows updates?
Install the chipset driver first if it is available. I think Intel now calls it "chipset software installation utility".
I'd probably then make sure I had a working Internet connection--that requires an Ethernet driver.
Not sure it matters after that.
Windows Update will normally feed you only certain updates, depending on what it sees when it analyzes your PC.
You should be sure you have Service Pack 1, but it won't be offered unless certain other updates are in place.
The normal advice is to take the updates a few at a time, rebooting after each batch---rather than taking 50 in one dose.
Thanks buddy :) I used wonder why windows update never gives me sp1.
Thanks for the answer guys and thanks for giving me the advice on installing the updates at a time instead all at once, took me 30 minutes while the initial process usually takes me 2 hours with some errors. I still havent receive the sp update yet?
If you can not connect to the internet, then you must go to another computer and download the wifi or ethernet driver depending upon your hardware.
After establishing an internet connection then:
Bios,
chipset/system driver,
graphics driver.
However, you mentioned a failure to be able to update Win 7.
this is a serious problem.
Did you ever "activate" your Win 7?
Control Panel | System | do you see a "genuine windows" icon on lower-right?
Keep updating until there are no more critical/important updates left to get.
If you are sure you do not have SP1 now and it is not eventually offered through Windows Update, start a separate thread about it in the Update section of this forum.
You can also download SP 1 directly, rather than getting it through Windows Update, but it probably would not install if your PC did not have the required updates already installed.
No Karlsnooks ( nice name btw) there is no failure to activate windows 7 i just used the one that is pasted on my machine. Yesterday day i did manage to get the update took about 1 hour to download but before that i had to download about 12 new ones then after that windows handed me the sp1, thanks for the answers guys everything is working good.
GTraymond,
Glad to hear that all is well and that we could be of assistance.
Some updates can take forever. If you ever think the system is hung when running Window Update then:
UPDATE IS HUNG –TAKING FOREVER
Hung is very doubtful unless you interrupted updates.
CTRL + SHIFT + ESC key combo will pop-up the Task Manager.
Lo and behold, Windows Update is still running!
You hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
While holding them down, tap the ESC key once.
Normally for most computers the necessary drivers get installed automatically as you install the Windows 7 OS.
If a few drivers are shown left out in the device manager then it hardly matters in what order you install them. However the most needed drivers are for Internet (Ethernet and/or Wi-Fi), Audio and Display. If any one of them have been left out during the OS installation then I would install them first.
