Safe to restore c:\windows\system32\DriverStore from win7 SP1 DVD?

    Hi,

Long Story short, I damaged my c:\windows\system32\driverstore\
filerepository folder by running the utility 'driver store explorer' too aggressively (entirely my fault).

That folder manages the hardware/devices portion of windows 7 more or less.

I've tried multiple fixes and now I'd like to know if it would be safe for me to copy the entire driverstore folder (and subfolders) from a legitimate windows 7 ultimate 64 SP1 (patched up to sep10th 2012) DVD into my current windows 7 ultimate 64 SP1 all patched windows (same folder etc), using the awesome tutorial found on seven forums showing 'how to extract folder from a win7 DVD'.

I've managed to successfully extract that folder & subfolders already. But if I copy it over, would my windows work after that? I'd make sure all files would be 100% overwritten, including subfolders.

I'm guessing it should work fine. I'm wondering if non-plug play drivers are also stored in driverstore, if so that could be one potential problem I was thinking of.

Not sure if anyone would know, kind of a hardcore question.

    Thank you!

I dont think so, i might be wrong but you'll need to do a sfc /scannow or a repair install.
