Confusion about which NVIDIA driver to install?

Running Windows 7 64-bit on a Gateway DX4720-03 with NVIDIA GeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i driver.

When I went to Nvidia's site to look to see if there were updates to my drivers, I came up with two drivers and don't know which one to install. Using Nvidia's search model and putting in GeForce 7 series, driver 306.23-WHQL was recommended. However, when I went the nForce 630i/Geforce 7100 route, driver 15.56-WHQL was recommended. Also, once it is sorted which dirvier to download/install, should I first uninstall the present drivers and after removing it, will I still be able to move about the screen to install the new driver? Or, does one just overwrite with the new driver?

Hi flycaster, the 15.56 driver is the mobo chipset driver, whereas the 306.23 is for the GPU , hence both drivers are required if you need to update the mobo and the GPU

Thanks, pebbly. Looks like I'll download and install both drivers. BTW, could you tell me if I first need to delete the present drivers...and will doing so still allow me to navigate until the new drivers are installed?

Hi flycaster, I really must apologise for missing this post My personal opinion on wether to remove the old drivers or not is just to install over the old drivers , That way I always have the opportunity to roll back the drivers if I need to
Some people remove the old drivers ,some keep them it's just personal preference
Windows will run on the generic graphic driver while you install the new driver so all commands ,navigation etc is covered :)

Went ahead an installed both drivers via Nvidia's automatic search/download. No problems. And as I don't play games, I have no idea if the new drivers have made any difference in my surfing pleasures.
