I updated to these latest chipset drivers and now 1 core of the cpu is running all the time at 90+%!

Resource monitor says System Interrupts are using all the cycles.

Updating this post - the cause of all the DPCs seems related to either DirectX (dxgkrnl.sys) or NDIS (ndis.sys) but I have not thus far been able to correct the issue.

Edit: I could not find any remedy to this problem and after considerable research I rolled back to the MS SATA driver, at which point cpu usage reverted to the normal few % at idle.

There has been a problem with AMD's SATA drivers affecting SB7xx southbridge chips since at least April 2014. Some machines have problems like yours, others are simply unbootable (like mine with a SB710). I have not been able to update my chipset drivers nor graphics drivers since that time because of this issue... so I gave up. Everything works well with the one year old 13.12 driver package.

Is this still available somewhere? I've had to revert back to old MS drivers.

I appreciate the diligence in this thread. ain't easy keeping amd stuff accurately/well config'd.
I have a X120E on which I keep reverting deliberately to an ancient MS generic SATA/AHCI driver in order for the system to behave well, as all the amd sata drivers I've tried do what's cited above: high interrupts, high cpu usage. at least the MS driver lets the system rest normally

that all said, someone had claimed that Omega's sata driver was good...
With this E-350/Hudson combination, however, the auto-detect once again cannot seem to detect the AMD components other than graphics. So, I have tried to find and manually patch-in the latest driver. that too failed but I don't know the cause.

I'm going to try the 13.12 below momentarily, but could someone enlighten me as to how to properly find such SATA drivers for these platforms? its always a seek/find/try exercise that is really unwelcome.

    thanks

From all I've read, the problems came when AMD provided updated SATA III (6 Gb/sec) drivers in their package that were found to be incompatible with the older SB700-series Southbridges, which are only SATA II (3 Gb/sec) capable. Since earlier this year, there's been no separate updated SATA II driver, only SATA III. No other Southbridge series seems to have been affected. Oops.

AMD's drivers don't exactly have a good reputation. I've seen advice time and again, and I agree with it: if you have a set of AMD graphics and/or chipset drivers that work properly, keep them. Back them up and save them if you ever need to reinstall them. Don't bother updating because the newer drivers just might not work properly. And always make a drive backup image before attempting any update.

    Hi,

Does this apply to the Biostar HiFi A85W motherboard?

No. It applies to 700-series chipsets, not A85-series.
