    adcsi, welcome to the forums
have you tried to simply update the driver to see if it works? Is that the correct DVD drive?
Also, please fill in your system specs (lower left corner), that will help other members help you further.

have you tried opening your pc WHEN IT's OFF and unplugging and plunging the cables (power and connector). if that fails than you are out of luck and need to buy a legit brand name.

Hi adcsi. Is your DVD drive IDE or SATA? Just last night I had a problem with a IDE drive and the connections. I also have a IDE HDD in that machine. If I connect the DVD to the middle connector (and HD at the end), it works fine. If I connect it to the end connector and HD in the middle, it will only read CDs, does not recognize any DVD. I bought a SATA DVD drive which shoudl arrive tonight...
I have anoterh older cable where the connectors are marked CD and HD. The newer ones are not.
Plese check that and let us know
